As the People’s National Movement (PNM) attempts to rebuild following a major 26-13 defeat at the poll last week, the party’s General Council will elect new executive members today.

According to PNM’s General Secretary Foster Cummings, the positions of chairman and vice chairman would be determined via secret ballot voting in today’s scheduled council meeting.

Cummings said this special General Council was requested via a letter signed by 20 members.

The party’s leadership was significantly reduced after former prime minister Stuart Young resigned as chairman last Wednesday.

Former deputy political leader Rohan Sinanan also resigned on Wednesday after Dr Keith Rowley resigned as political leader.

Rowley revoked the appointments of Colm Imbert and Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly as deputies - unbeknownst to them - in a final act via a one-sentence letter before demitting office.

At present, the party’s core leadership team consists of General Secretary Foster Cummings, Lady Vice Chair Camille Robinson-Regis and deputy political leader and head of the party’s Tobago Council Ancil Dennis.

While General Council members can nominate anyone any member once they are in good standing including financial standing, Cummings revealed he will not be offering himself for the position of chairman.

The positions of political leader and deputy political leader will remain vacant until the PNM holds its convention at a date to be determined.

Immediately following the General Council, Cummings said the leadership will meet to discuss how soon that convention could be held.

During my consultation with Ms Brafit CEO Nicole Joseph-Chin, what was supposed to be a simple mastectomy bra fitting became something much deeper. Her thoughtful questions unlocked emotions I didn’t even realise I was holding in. She comforted, reassured, and helped me face the truth of what was coming. That bra wasn’t just clothing—it was the first real symbol of life after surgery.
