Homi­cide in­ves­ti­ga­tors are await­ing in­struc­tions from the Di­rec­tor of Pub­lic Pros­e­cu­tions on whether to charge a male rel­a­tive in the death of 15-year-old Al­liyah Alexan­der.

Alexan­der a stu­dent of Cou­va West Sec­ondary School was beat­en to death last Tues­day. She was pro­nounced dead at the Cou­va Health Fa­cil­i­ty. The 36-year-old rel­a­tive has ad­mit­ted to beat­ing her at his Rig Road, Clax­ton Bay home.

Alexan­der's moth­er had tak­en her to the rel­a­tive's home ear­li­er that day to be dis­ci­plined due o "teenage boyfriend" prob­lems.  He is a cor­po­ral at­tached to the Trinidad and To­ba­go De­fence Force. An au­top­sy per­formed at the Foren­sic Sci­ence Cen­tre re­vealed that death was due to blunt force in­juries.

Dur­ing her fu­ner­al ser­vice on Sat­ur­day at The Apos­tles Min­istries in Long­donville, Ch­agua­nas, Al­liyah was de­scribed as an obe­di­ent, lov­ing, in­tel­li­gent and well-round­ed young woman. While her un­cle Jim­my Gue­var­ra ad­mit­ted that he want­ed to beat the rel­a­tive when he heard what hap­pened, he has since for­giv­en him. He said the rel­a­tive loved Al­liyah more than he loved him­self and they shared a close re­la­tion­ship. He asked the au­thor­i­ties to re­lease him from po­lice cus­tody.
