Police have arrested and charged a 35-year-old man for the murder of Candace Cassie-Ann Lemessy, who was gunned down near her Mayaro home on Tuesday 17 June, 2025.
Samuel Paul, of Mayaro, was also charged with possession of a firearm. The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, through Deputy DPP Mrs Dougadeen-Jaglal, gave the advice for his arrest on Monday 7 July.
According to police, officers responded to reports of gunfire at LP 54 Church Road around 3:30 p.m. and found Lemessy's body in the front seat of a white MG vehicle. She had been shot multiple times and was slumped toward the driver’s side. The vehicle, parked under a shed, showed gunshot damage to the windscreen and both front doors.
Police later recovered six spent .38 calibre shells at the scene.
Lemessy, a 41-year-old mother of two and contractor, had reportedly been receiving death threats following an altercation months earlier. Her van crashed into a building, once a bar, moments after she was shot.
Paul was arrested on Monday 30 June .
He is expected to appear before a magistrate on Tuesday.
