Po­lice have ar­rest­ed and charged a 35-year-old man for the mur­der of Can­dace Cassie-Ann Lemessy, who was gunned down near her Ma­yaro home on Tues­day 17 June, 2025.

Samuel Paul, of Ma­yaro, was al­so charged with pos­ses­sion of a firearm. The Of­fice of the Di­rec­tor of Pub­lic Pros­e­cu­tions, through Deputy DPP Mrs Dougadeen-Jaglal, gave the ad­vice for his ar­rest on Mon­day 7 Ju­ly.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice, of­fi­cers re­spond­ed to re­ports of gun­fire at LP 54 Church Road around 3:30 p.m. and found Lemessy's body in the front seat of a white MG ve­hi­cle. She had been shot mul­ti­ple times and was slumped to­ward the dri­ver’s side. The ve­hi­cle, parked un­der a shed, showed gun­shot dam­age to the wind­screen and both front doors.

Po­lice lat­er re­cov­ered six spent .38 cal­i­bre shells at the scene.

Lemessy, a 41-year-old moth­er of two and con­trac­tor, had re­port­ed­ly been re­ceiv­ing death threats fol­low­ing an al­ter­ca­tion months ear­li­er. Her van crashed in­to a build­ing, once a bar, mo­ments af­ter she was shot.

Paul was ar­rest­ed on Mon­day 30 June .

He is ex­pect­ed to ap­pear be­fore a mag­is­trate on Tues­day.
