Police Constable Amon Andrews remains in a critical condition at hospital after being ambushed and shot multiple times during an attempted robbery yesterday.
Hours after the 51-year-old was hospitalised, senior officials of the T&T Police Service (TTPS) visited the injured officer at hospital.
Praying for Amon’s speedy recovery during a visit to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope – Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Operations, Suzette Martin; and Snr Supt of the North Central Division, Vernly Gift, found him to be alert, despite his wounds.
Amon, who was attached to the Arouca Police Station, was reportedly heading to his home at Skinner Street, off Constantine Street, Arouca, around 2 am on October 1, when he was allegedly approached by the lone gunman who announced a robbery.
It is believed Amon struggled with the suspect, during which time he was shot in the chest, upper mid back, and left leg – and left in a bloody heap on the road.
Amon was found by neighbours and his common law wife around 2.45 am, close to the Priority Bus Route and rushed to the hospital where he was found to have suffered damage to his lungs and lower spinal cord.
Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro yesterday joined the TTPS to offer prayers for Amon’s continued recovery.
