Police intercept large quantity of marijuana during traffic stop in Couva

Po­lice say a rou­tine traf­fic stop yes­ter­day, re­sult­ed in the seizure of a large quan­ti­ty of mar­i­jua­na and the ar­rest of one man.

Re­ports say at 8.30 am a par­ty of of­fi­cers led by Sergeant Ma­haraj, PC Men­doza

and PC Mc Al­lis­ter were on traf­fic du­ties along Noel Street, South Cou­va.

The of­fi­cers made a rou­tine stop of a Hyundai Elantra ve­hi­cle dri­ven by a 37-year-old man.

Of­fi­cers say the dri­ver be­gan to be­have

sus­pi­cious­ly so they then con­duct­ed a search of the ve­hi­cle, dur­ing which 3.71 kilo­grammes of mar­i­jua­na were seized. The man was im­me­di­ate­ly ar­rest­ed.

In a sep­a­rate in­ci­dent, a 24-year-old man from Blan­chisseuse en­tered a bar in Ch­agua­nas, jumped over the counter of the bar, and stole a quan­ti­ty of cash, rep­re­sent­ing the day’s sale.

It was re­port­ed that the man then fled on foot.

Of­fi­cers of the Ch­agua­nas Po­lice were im­me­di­ate­ly con­tact­ed, and a

par­ty of of­fi­cers from the Ch­agua­nas Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tion De­part­ment (CID), Ch­agua­nas Charge Room, Task Force Area

North, and High­way Pa­trol re­spond­ed prompt­ly.

The sus­pect was ap­pre­hend­ed a short while af­ter, by of­fi­cers of the High­way Pa­trol.
