An unidentified man who fired at the police during a chase in Cunupia today, has been killed.
Residents of Richard Lane, Cunupia, reported seeing a group of armed men in the area around 9:45 am on Friday, August 12.
As members of the Central Division Task Force (Area North) responded, they saw an African male brandishing a gun.
Refusing to comply with instructions to drop the weapon and surrender, the suspect shot in the direction of the lawmen who returned fire.
As the suspect turned into a lane leading off Richard Lane in an attempt to escape, he was confronted by a second group of officers—upon whom he also fired.
This group of lawmen also returned fire, hitting the suspect several times.
Officers went to the man’s assistance as he fell to the ground.
He was taken to the Chaguanas Health Facility where he was pronounced dead.
Officers recovered a Glock 22 pistol at the scene.
