A bandit was shot dead by police officers during an alleged police-involved shooting at Brazil Village, San Raphael on Thursday night.

Police have launched a manhunt for the bandit’s three accomplices, who are believed to have been shot and wounded during last night’s incident.

It is alleged that four men, in a white Honda Civic, went to rob the Cross Quality Supermarket at about 8 pm on Thursday.

Police said when the officers responded to the report of the robbery and arrived on the scene, the men got into the vehicle and sped off.

The officers attempted to intercept the car; however, the men reportedly opened fire on the police.

The officers returned fire.

The car stopped and three of the suspects ran out into nearby bushes.

Police officers found one of the suspects still in the car but bleeding from multiple gunshot wounds.

He was taken to the Arima District Hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police said the dead bandit is known to them only as "Son, son" from Malabar and describe him as a known "pest."

The vehicle was seized by the police and sent to the Forensic Science Centre (FSC) for analysis.

Police reports indicate two firearms and a quantity of ammunition were recovered from the vehicle. The seized items also were sent to the FSC for ballistic testing.

Police officers subsequently launched a manhunt in the area for the other three suspects.

Investigations are continuing.
