Police in the Central Division say that none of the schoolboys involved in the assault of another boy on Montrose Junction, Chaguanas, last week have been arrested, as enquiries continue into the incident.
A portion of the attack was recorded in a 22-second-long video and posted to social media last Wednesday, which showed students beating the boy on Montrose Junction opposite KFC, temporarily blocking traffic.
During the attack, one of the boys kicked the 14-year-old victim, knocking him unconscious.
In the video, the driver of a nearby car did not see the boy crouched near the front of the vehicle and tried to drive off, but pressed against him before being stopped by passers-by.
According to a TTPS media release last Thursday, the attack reportedly stemmed from “banter” via social media.
When contacted for comment yesterday, head of the Central Division Snr Supt Rudolph Bhagwandeen confirmed that none of the boys identified as suspects in the incident were arrested as the probe into the incident continued.
“The officers are in the process of recording statements from witnesses, so we are in the process of doing that as well as collecting medical certificates and so on.
“This is something we’re treating very seriously, and we have spent all weekend working on collecting these items. In such investigations, we like to have everything in place first before we move to arrest anyone.”
Bhagwandeen said police were trying to confirm the victim’s identity up to Thursday, as further enquiries were done by officers.
