Police officer, Venezuelan in court for trafficking minors

A po­lice of­fi­cer and a Venezue­lan na­tion­al were ex­pect­ed to ap­pear be­fore a Ch­agua­nas Mag­is­trate yes­ter­day to face charges in con­nec­tion with traf­fick­ing in per­sons and oth­er gang-re­lat­ed ac­tiv­i­ties.

They were ar­rest­ed dur­ing an an­ti-crime ex­er­cise con­duct­ed in the Cen­tral Di­vi­sion on Mon­day.

Ac­cord­ing to a state­ment from the po­lice ser­vice the of­fi­cer Vi­cash Ram­ta­hal, who was last as­signed to the Cen­tral Di­vi­sion, was charged with the fol­low­ing of­fences:

Be­ing a Gang mem­ber.

Sup­port­ing a gang in the com­mis­sion of gang-re­lat­ed ac­tiv­i­ty.

Traf­fick­ing in Per­sons (mi­nors).

In­cit­ing or caus­ing a child to en­gage in sex­u­al ac­tiv­i­ty. Mis­be­hav­iour in Pub­lic of­fice.

Julio Cae­sar, the Venezue­lan na­tion­al was charged with these crimes:

Be­ing a Gang mem­ber.

Sup­port­ing a gang in the com­mis­sion of gang-re­lat­ed ac­tiv­i­ty.

Traf­fick­ing in Per­sons (mi­nors).

The po­lice ser­vice said a sec­ond po­lice of­fi­cer who was ar­rest­ed was re­leased on Thurs­day pend­ing fur­ther en­quiries

Oth­er per­sons are ex­pect­ed to be ar­rest­ed soon as the probe con­tin­ues.

The ex­er­cise was con­duct­ed by mem­bers of the Spe­cial Op­er­a­tions Re­sponse Team (SORT), the Counter-Traf­fick­ing Unit, and a spe­cial­ized team es­tab­lished by Com­mis­sion­er of Po­lice, Gary Grif­fith.
