A po­lice ex­er­cise in the Mor­vant dis­trict on Wednes­day, re­sult­ed in the re­cov­ery of a firearm and sev­er­al rounds of am­mu­ni­tion.

The ex­er­cise, code named Op­er­a­tion Stead­fast, took place be­tween 3 am and 9 am on Oc­to­ber 23

Un­der the Emer­gency Pow­ers Reg­u­la­tions 2025, of­fi­cers went to the home of a 20-year-old pri­or­i­ty of­fend­er at Up­per Sixth Av­enue, Mal­ick, Barataria, to search for firearms and am­mu­ni­tion, but he could not be found.

They then went to an­oth­er prop­er­ty a short dis­tance away, where they found the sus­pect and an­oth­er in­di­vid­ual.

Fol­low­ing a search of that prop­er­ty dur­ing which noth­ing was found, the pri­or­i­ty of­fend­er was held for ques­tion­ing in re­la­tion to sev­er­al shoot­ing in­ci­dents in the Mor­vant and San Juan dis­tricts.

Mean­while, a search of sev­er­al aban­doned struc­tures at Up­per Sixth Av­enue was car­ried out, fol­low­ing which of­fi­cers re­cov­ered a black AR-15 ri­fle with eight rounds of 5.56 am­mu­ni­tion, un­der a white fridge in an open yard.

The op­er­a­tion was spear­head­ed by Snr Supt Guy-Al­leyne, Supt Birch and ASP Cal­len­der, was co­or­di­nat­ed by In­sp Ram­s­ingh and in­clud­ed mem­bers of the Mor­vant CID, San Juan CID and the Mor­vant Po­lice Sta­tion.
