A police exercise in the Morvant district on Wednesday, resulted in the recovery of a firearm and several rounds of ammunition.
The exercise, code named Operation Steadfast, took place between 3 am and 9 am on October 23
Under the Emergency Powers Regulations 2025, officers went to the home of a 20-year-old priority offender at Upper Sixth Avenue, Malick, Barataria, to search for firearms and ammunition, but he could not be found.
They then went to another property a short distance away, where they found the suspect and another individual.
Following a search of that property during which nothing was found, the priority offender was held for questioning in relation to several shooting incidents in the Morvant and San Juan districts.
Meanwhile, a search of several abandoned structures at Upper Sixth Avenue was carried out, following which officers recovered a black AR-15 rifle with eight rounds of 5.56 ammunition, under a white fridge in an open yard.
The operation was spearheaded by Snr Supt Guy-Alleyne, Supt Birch and ASP Callender, was coordinated by Insp Ramsingh and included members of the Morvant CID, San Juan CID and the Morvant Police Station.
