Tobago police are still trying to identify the man whose partially decomposed body was found on a beach in Scarborough earlier this week.
Senior Superintendent of Police Earl Elie confirmed on Wednesday that no one has come forward to identify the body, leaving police at a standstill.
“No one came forward to identify the body as yet,” he said.
“So we have, we have, we do have a report of anybody missing in Tobago or anything like that, you know. So we just are hopeful that somebody come comes forth, or some report of others in person, so that will assist us in bringing some kind of closure to that investigation. So.”
The body was discovered around 2.15 p.m. on Tuesday on the beach near Castries Street.
Officers of the Scarborough Police Station were on patrol when they spotted what appeared to be a body lying in seaweed.
Checks confirmed it was a man’s body.
Police said it was in an advanced state of decomposition and the face was unrecognisable. The man’s ethnicity remains unknown.
Officers from the Crime Scene Unit processed the scene. The District Medical Officer visited and pronounced the man dead at 4.43 p.m.
The body was taken to the Scarborough General Hospital Mortuary.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
Police investigations are continuing.
