Police seized two homemade shotguns, recovered stolen cash, and arrested several suspects in a series of anti-crime operations across Trinidad between Friday and Sunday.
In a statement issued yesterday the TTPS said, in the Southern Division, officers seized a homemade shotgun following a confrontation between two neighbours in New Grant. Police said the victim, an unemployed man from Naparima–Mayaro Road, was picking mangoes behind his home when he was approached by a man known to him. The man allegedly issued threats, left the area, and returned shortly after armed with a firearm.
A struggle reportedly ensued, during which the victim disarmed the suspect, who then fled the scene. Officers responded promptly and took possession of the weapon. Investigations are ongoing.
Also in the South, four persons were arrested and five fixed penalty notices issued during a traffic and breathalyser exercise conducted between 11.30 pm on Saturday and 3.30 am on Sunday in the San Fernando District.
The operation was carried out by the Southern Division Road Enforcement Task Force. Nine stop-and-search forms were completed, and four men were arrested for having breath alcohol levels exceeding the legal limit. Those arrested included a 29-year-old tradesman from Sunrees Road, Penal, a 38-year-old process operator from Wellington Gardens, Debe, a 39-year-old tradesman from Rami Trace, Debe, and a 41-year-old welder from Gandhi Village, Debe.
That operation was coordinated by Snr Supt Simon, Supt Jaikaran, ASP Ramsaran, Insp Maharaj, Sgt Nandlal, and supervised by Cpl Ramnarine.
Meanwhile, in Port-of-Spain, police seized a second homemade shotgun and several rounds of ammunition during an anti-crime exercise on Saturday. Between 6 pm and 10 pm, officers of the Special Response Unit and the Port-of-Spain and Western Division Emergency Response Patrol searched a premises on Davis Street, Gonzales.
The items seized included:
• One homemade shotgun
• One 12-gauge cartridge
• One extended .40 calibre magazine
• Eight .40 calibre rounds
• One 9mm magazine
• Fifteen 5.56 rounds of ammunition
• One pair of camouflage pants
• One black utility vest
Investigations are ongoing. The operation was led by ACP Hazel and coordinated by Superintendent Robain, ASP Ward, and Inspector Saunders. It was supervised by Ag/Sgt Antoine and Corporal Ghingooree.
In the Central Division, five men were arrested and the full sum of $46,000 in stolen cash was recovered following an intelligence-led operation on Friday. The exercise followed a robbery with violence that took place earlier that day in the car park of a banking institution.
Acting on intelligence, officers of the Chaguanas CID proceeded to Roystonia, Couva, where they arrested four men and retrieved the stolen cash. Those arrested were:
• An 18-year-old from Bhagaloo Street, Enterprise, also a suspect in a series of PH taxi-related robberies
• A 24-year-old from Nazim Mohammed Street, Carapichaima
• A 26-year-old from Chase Village, Chaguanas
• A 30-year-old from Palm Avenue, Perseverance, Couva
A fifth suspect, a 30-year-old man from Hardbargain, Williamsville, and 6th Avenue, Malick, was arrested in connection with multiple reports of larceny motor vehicle.
That operation was coordinated by Superintendent Glodon and ASP Simon and supervised by Acting Sergeant Baboolal.
