Students, teachers and security officers were on Friday left highly traumatised as a mentally unstable man stormed into the compound of the Barataria South Secondary School and went on a rampage.
The incident occurred shortly before 8 am.
The man attacked the security officers who fought hard to restrain him. After they managed to tie him down he broke free and began pelting chairs and stones at teachers and the officers.
Police officers who were on the compound, we're not armed with tasers so instead one of them shot him in the leg in a bid to "stop him."
The mentally unstable man was then taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope and is currently warded under police guard.
The school's principal later dismissed classes for the day saying the staff and pupils were left highly traumatised.
Education officials are expected to deploy a team from the Student Support Services to offer counselling and whatever else support needed on Monday.
