The breach of a red traffic light is believed to be the reason behind a head-on collision which claimed the life of one of the drivers last Thursday, police say.

Kerri Clarke, 39, labourer, of Embacadere, San Fernando, died at the San Fernando General Hospital.

Police said around 1.50 am last Thursday, Babriel Lambert, 19, of Union Hall, was driving south along the San Fernando By-Pass in a silver grey Toyota wagon. But, when he got to the traffic lights by the Blitz Village intersection, Clarke exited from Blitz Village in a black Kia Rio, reportedly breaching the red light.

The wagon and Kia collided.

Lambert and his front seat passenger, a 14-year-old boy, were injured. Meanwhile, Clarke’s front seat passenger, a 34-year-old woman from Vistabella, suffered minor injuries.

With the assistance of officers from the Mon Repos Fire Station, the injured victims were removed from the vehicles and taken to the hospital.

PC Mohess and PC Roberts, of the Mon Repos Police Station, visited the scene. Cpl Lee is investigating.
