President of the Police Service Social and Welfare Association (TTPSSWA), ASP Gideon Dickson, says the recent announcement of a re-shuffle at the helm of the Police Service is merely administrative.
On CNC3’s The Morning Brew show today, ASP Dickson said contrary to public opinion—that there is always some level of discord attached to the Police Service—the intended reshuffling of three deputy commissioners is nothing to be concerned about.
He also noted that the vacation orders given to ACP Wayne Mystar to proceed on 16 months leave is a non-issue.
“We have no information to suggest anything besides what you would call administrative decisions, which are aligned to both improving the organisation and also aligned to ensuring that our officers [are] able to get what they are deserving of,” ASP Dickson explained.
On Tuesday, Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro defended the decision, saying the officers have been in the positions for a year and changes are being made for the overall development of the Police Service.
ASP Dickson said ACP Mystar is not the only officer on extended leave. He revealed that he, too, was sent on leave.
The senior cop argued that police officers need time to rejuvenate.
“In most instances, a police officer who is career driven, although on leave, stays in touch with the developments [in] the organisation,” he said, “so that when he comes back in, it will be a seamless transition.”
“Senior officers have been going on leave over time, and this is nothing new,” he added.
Meanwhile, the TTPSSWA elections are due soon, and ASP Dickson, who is the Association’s president at this time, says the Election Committee is meeting on Friday (September 19, 2025) to discuss the matter.
