A Port-of-Spain man was shot in the left knee during a botched transaction in La Horquetta, involving the sale of gold which had been organised via an online advertisement.
Investigators said the 27-year-old of Seventh Street, Beetham Gardens, had driven his 40-year-old friend of Cantaro Village, Upper Santa Cruz, to La Horquetta, on Friday, to meet the alleged seller to purchase a quantity of gold that had been advertised on Facebook Marketplace.
The two victims picked up two suspects around 10.30 am in the vicinity of the basketball court at Phase Seven, where they sat talking.
During the conversation, one of the suspects pulled out a gun.
The two victims were robbed of $900 in cash, a Samsung Galaxy S9 cellphone, and the keys for the victim’s Fielder Wagon—before the suspects ordered them out and instructed them to run east along Slinger Francisco Boulevard, Phase 7, La Horquetta.
As the victims took off running, they heard a loud explosion and realised the suspects were shooting at them.
One of the victims was shot in the foot, while the second managed to escape injury.
Responding officers later took the injured man to hospital, where he was treated and discharged.
