President Christine Kangaloo has called on citizens to channel the spirit of past labour pioneers as Trinidad and Tobago navigates the challenges and opportunities posed by artificial intelligence (AI). In her Labour Day 2025 message, she described AI as “a powerful and complex tool” reshaping industries and redefining work, bringing both heady possibilities and real risks.
While acknowledging AI’s potential to boost productivity and create new sectors, Kangaloo cautioned about job displacement, ethical concerns, and data privacy. She urged national investment in digital literacy and technical education to prepare workers for an AI-driven economy. She called for a “whole-of-society” approach, uniting workers, employers, civil society, and the State to ensure inclusive progress.
