Pres­i­dent-Elect Chris­tine Kan­ga­loo is con­fi­dent that her past po­lit­i­cal ties to the Peo­ple’s Na­tion­al Move­ment (PNM) will not af­fect her judg­ment in of­fice. She not­ed that she has not been a part of the po­lit­i­cal par­ty for the past sev­en years. 

“When I be­came Pres­i­dent of the Sen­ate, I re­signed from par­tic­i­pa­tion in the po­lit­i­cal par­ty, I re­signed my mem­ber­ship,” she re­vealed.

“I, al­so, since 2015, as the pre­sid­ing of­fi­cer, as the pres­i­dent of the Sen­ate, I have at­tend­ed no po­lit­i­cal func­tions. I have tak­en part in no lo­cal ac­tiv­i­ties. I have made no po­lit­i­cal de­ci­sions. I have re­ceived no po­lit­i­cal in­struc­tions—that is how I have been con­duct­ing my­self for the last sev­en years,” the Pres­i­dent-Elect added. 

She said while she does not de­ny her past po­lit­i­cal ties, she nev­er treat­ed any­thing on a par­ti­san ba­sis, and she asked the pub­lic to give her a chance to per­form her du­ties ac­cord­ing to the Con­sti­tu­tion.
