A man and woman believed to have been involved in the robbery of an elderly Princes Town couple were arrested during an anti-crime exercise in Belmont on Tuesday night.
The elderly couple owns the popular supermarket Persad’s D Food King.
Police said officers of the Port-of-Spain Task Force Areas East and West began a series of searches and exercises in Belmont.
Around 9.30 pm, the officers went to a house on Upper St Barbs Road, Belmont, where they found two people sitting in a black Toyota Fielder Wagon in the front yard.
Police searched the car and found two pieces of camouflage clothing.
The couple was arrested.
The suspects were later named as wanted in connection with a Princes Town home invasion where two people, both aged 78 years old, were tied up at their home on Monday night.
The bandits stole $10,000 cash, a Smith and Wesson revolver with 25 rounds of .38 ammunition, a shotgun and other valuables.
