A man and woman be­lieved to have been in­volved in the rob­bery of an el­der­ly Princes Town cou­ple were ar­rest­ed dur­ing an an­ti-crime ex­er­cise in Bel­mont on Tues­day night.

The el­der­ly cou­ple owns the pop­u­lar su­per­mar­ket Per­sad’s D Food King.

Po­lice said of­fi­cers of the Port-of-Spain Task Force Ar­eas East and West be­gan a se­ries of search­es and ex­er­cis­es in Bel­mont.

Around 9.30 pm, the of­fi­cers went to a house on Up­per St Barbs Road, Bel­mont, where they found two peo­ple sit­ting in a black Toy­ota Field­er Wag­on in the front yard.

Po­lice searched the car and found two pieces of cam­ou­flage cloth­ing.

The cou­ple was ar­rest­ed.

The sus­pects were lat­er named as want­ed in con­nec­tion with a Princes Town home in­va­sion where two peo­ple, both aged 78 years old, were tied up at their home on Mon­day night.

The ban­dits stole $10,000 cash, a Smith and Wes­son re­volver with 25 rounds of .38 am­mu­ni­tion, a shot­gun and oth­er valu­ables.
