A pris­ons of­fi­cer, at­tached to the Port- of- Spain State Prison was ex­pect­ed to ap­pear vir­tu­al­ly be­fore a mag­is­trate yes­ter­day charged with pos­ses­sion of mar­i­jua­na and tak­ing a dan­ger­ous drug in­to the prison.

A po­lice re­lease said Mark Ma­haraj was charged with the of­fences by of­fi­cers of the Port- of- Spain Di­vi­sion on Sun­day.

He was ex­pect­ed to ap­pear in court yes­ter­day.

Po­lice said Ma­haraj, who has nine years’ ser­vice, was ar­rest­ed af­ter four pack­ets of mar­i­jua­na weigh­ing one kilo­gramme, were al­leged­ly found in his pos­ses­sion dur­ing a rou­tine search at the jail last Fri­day.

A re­port was made to the po­lice and Ma­haraj tak­en in­to cus­tody.

In­ves­ti­ga­tions were con­duct­ed by Sgt Guer­ra, with the as­sis­tance of of­fi­cers of the Port- of- Spain Di­vi­sion, the Spe­cial In­ves­ti­ga­tions Unit, the Cy­ber Crime Unit and the Port- of- Spain Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tions Di­vi­sion. Ma­haraj was charged by Guer­ra.

Teens in court for rob­bery

Two teenagers were due to ap­pear be­fore a Port-of-Spain mag­is­trate yes­ter­day to an­swer rob­bery charges.

The ac­cused are ages 16 and 17 of Mal­ick and San­ta Cruz re­spec­tive­ly.

They were re­port­ed­ly de­tained at about 3 pm on Sat­ur­day in Aranguez.

A po­lice re­port said of­fi­cers were near Aranguez Sa­van­nah, in Aranguez, when they were flagged down by a man on the road­way.

The man told the of­fi­cers he had just been robbed. The man point­ed at two sus­pects who were run­ning away.

The of­fi­cers re­spond­ed and held the teenagers a short dis­tance away. The stolen item was re­cov­ered
