The Trinidad and To­ba­go Prison Ser­vice (TTPrS) has in­ter­cept­ed a pack­age con­tain­ing mar­i­jua­na and oth­er pro­hib­it­ed items that was thrown over the perime­ter wall of the Port-of-Spain Prison.

In a state­ment, the TTPS said that around 8.10 am on Thurs­day, of­fi­cers act­ed on in­for­ma­tion that a pack­age had been tossed over the prison’s wall.

A search of the prison’s south-west­ern perime­ter led to the dis­cov­ery of a black plas­tic bag con­tain­ing a white gal­lon bot­tle.

Ac­cord­ing to the Prison Ser­vice, the bot­tle con­tained 230 grammes of plant-like ma­te­r­i­al re­sem­bling mar­i­jua­na, 12 packs of RAW rolling pa­pers, four packs of Bam­bu rolling pa­pers, and nine cig­a­rette lighters.

In­ves­ti­ga­tions are con­tin­u­ing with the as­sis­tance of ex­ter­nal law en­force­ment agen­cies.

The dis­cov­ery came just one day af­ter of­fi­cers at the Max­i­mum Se­cu­ri­ty Prison seized two cel­lu­lar phones, 348 cig­a­rettes, a hot­plate, an ex­ten­sion cord, a makeshift elec­tri­cal out­let, and wrap­ping pa­per dur­ing a search of G Di­vi­sion.

The TTPrS said three in­mates are ex­pect­ed to be charged in con­nec­tion with those items.

The Prison Ser­vice al­so warned mem­bers of the pub­lic that in­tro­duc­ing pro­hib­it­ed ar­ti­cles in­to a prison is a se­ri­ous of­fence and will be dealt with ac­cord­ing to the law.
