A 41-year-old prisoner died in his cell at the Arouca Maximum Security Prison days after being hospitalised for a medication overdose.
Police said prison officers found the body of Raffie Mohammed in his cell at around 5.30 am on Tuesday.
He was taken to the prison infirmary and then to the Arima Hospital, where he was declared dead.
Investigators said that sometime last week, Mohammed overdosed on Metformin pills and was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex.
He was discharged on Monday.
Investigations are continuing by officers of the Arouca CID.
