President of the Public Services Association Watson Duke is threatening a week of rest for employees of the Board of Inland Revenue and Customs and Excise, should the Government fail to address their concerns on job security in the establishment of the Trinidad and Tobago Revenue Authority.
Duke was speaking yesterday at the PSA walk around downtown Port-of-Spain to protest the terms and conditions of retrenchment and re-employment being given to the workers of BIR and Customs and Excise. He called on the employees of BIR, Customs and Excise and fellow public servants to note Good Friday as the start of week-long rest.
He said it was through that extreme mobilisation of the labour movement that the voices of the employees would be heard. Duke had previously called March 1 a day of rest, leaving BIR and Customs and Excise at a virtual standstill.
