The body of a Hindu religious leader, Pundit Kawal Singh was found face down at the mouth of a bay in Waterloo, Carapichaima, on Tuesday.

The victim has been identified as Pundit Kawal Singh, 54, of Mungal Trace, Orange Field Road in Carapichaima.

Police said his vehicle was found abandoned along a road in Brickfield by relatives, who had launched a search for him after they suspected that something was not right.

According to a police report, around 5 pm, Cpl Harriot and PC Lezama responded to a report of a vehicle found abandoned at Bay Road, Brickfield Village, Waterloo Carapichaima.

The officers observed a black Nissan Laurel bearing the registration number PCC 2051 parked at the end of the road with the driver’s door opened.

A close friend of Singh told the police officers that, with the help of some of the villagers, they formed a search party and found Singh’s lifeless body in the mouth of the bay.

The body was clad in a grey t-shirt and a pair of black three-quarter pants with no visible marks of violence.

The officers later met with the pundit’s sister, who reported that she last saw her brother alive around 8.30 am Tuesday when he left home to go to the temple for prayers.

With his failure to return home she became worried as he was said to be a heart patient and had recently undergone a triple bypass surgery.

Singh’s sister said she made several attempts to contact him.

The body was examined by DMO Dr Dhawalaghar who ordered that the body be removed to the San Fernando Mortuary.

Singh’s vehicle was taken to the Freeport Police Station.

Investigations are continuing.
