Raw sewage is flowing from an open hole on Ian Atherly Drive,Tarouba Heights in Marabella.
Several residents have complained of experiencing nausea and vomiting because of the stench. Resident Lisa Forde said the hole developed a week ago, and since then it has widened threefold. "We are now experiencing a terrible stench and although we have made reports, nothing was ever done," Forde said. Raw sewage was seen bubbling out of the hole and running down the hill in front of three houses.
Forde said this posed a health hazard for the residents. "A lot of children play here and they could fall ill if this is not corrected," Forde said. She said two residents of Tarouba were hospitalised recently with dengue fever. Forde also said many houses in Tarouba Heights were cracking because of land slippage. She noted that the hole was almost six feet deep and was filled with water.
"If one of the children fall in here, they could die," she said. "If the HDC does not fix this soon, then the entire road will slip away...We will be unable to get garbage trucks in here." She also noted that the crib wall which held up the land had also been cracking and slipping.
Forde said that she spent more than $100,000 to backfill and reinforce her home. Managing director of HDC, Jearlean John could not be reached for comment as calls to her cellular phone went unanswered yesterday.
