A relative of missing US citizen Gandhi Ramlochan is still hopeful he can be found safe.
Ramlochan, 66, was last seen on Sunday night by a friend on Monroe Road, Cunupia.
On Monday night, Central Division police received a report that a burnt Hyundai Elantra was found in a dirt track off the Caroni South Bank Road.
Investigators said burnt human remains were found in the trunk of the car.
The remains were burnt beyond recognition.
Guardian Media visited the home of Ramlochan's family at their Ramsingh Street, Cunupia, home today and spoke with a relative who said that other family members visited the Forensic Science Centre, St James, earlier to provide DNA samples to confirm the identity of the remains.
She said the family was concerned but still holding onto hope that Ramlochan was still alive.
"We're hoping it (the remains) is not him because he's not a bad person.
"He only came into the country on Saturday night."
The relative said Ramlochan was warned by several family members about wearing flashy jewellery when liming in Trinidad.
Ramlochan visited TT as part of his birthday celebrations.
He lived in Queens, New York.
