Two relatives of five-year-old Shakeel Williams remained in police custody up to yesterday afternoon, as police sought answers about the child’s death.

Shakeel was found unresponsive at his grandmother’s Doolay Lane, El Socorro, San Juan home on September 2.

He was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope, where he was declared dead.

However, examining doctors found several marks believed to be consistent with a beating on his body and called in the police.

An autopsy last week confirmed Shakeel died by blunt force trauma.

The findings of the autopsy led police to reclassify Shakeel’s death as a murder.

Police sources confirmed that two relatives, a man and woman, both in their twenties, were arrested on Tuesday and remained in police custody yesterday. (SS)
