Well-known lo­cal au­thor and colum­nist, BC Pires has passed away.

Guardian Me­dia un­der­stands that he died yes­ter­day at the age of 65. 

Pires was a bar­ris­ter by qual­i­fi­ca­tion but chose to be a writer for the al­most 30 years. 

He would be re­mem­bered for his flag­ship col­umn, “Thank God It’s Fri­day”, has ap­peared in all three dai­ly news­pa­pers at dif­fer­ent points in his ca­reer.

Since his pass­ing, there have been ex­pres­sions of con­do­lences and trib­utes on so­cial me­dia, with some per­sons la­belling him as a stal­wart whose con­tri­bu­tion to jour­nal­ism will be missed.
