A for­mer po­lice of­fi­cer was gunned down out­side his home in Pe­nal just af­ter 9 am to­day, and a mo­tive is yet to be es­tab­lished for the killing.

The de­ceased has been iden­ti­fied as 46-year-old busi­ness­man Syed Mo­hammed of Kat­wa­roo Trace in Pe­nal, a for­mer Po­lice Con­sta­ble.  He had re­tired from the Po­lice Ser­vice some three years ago.

Guardian Me­dia un­der­stands that Mo­hammed was leav­ing his home at around 9 am to go to his busi­ness place when his wife re­port­ed­ly heard two loud ex­plo­sions.  Up­on check­ing, she found him ly­ing on the road­way in front of their garage.  He had a gun­shot wound to the head.

Fol­low­ing the shoot­ing, two per­sons were in­ter­cept­ed in a ve­hi­cle in Su­chit Trace in Pe­nal.  The men were ar­rest­ed, and a firearm be­lieved to be used in the shoot­ing of Mo­hammed was re­cov­ered.
