Russia-Ukraine War to feature in UWI experts panel on Friday

The Rus­sia-Ukraine War is the fea­ture top­ic in a spe­cial Vice-Chan­cel­lor’s Fo­rum on UWItv, this Fri­day, June 10.  The UWI says the vir­tu­al event themed, “The Rus­sia-Ukraine War Geo-Strate­gic Per­spec­tives: In­ter­ests and Im­pli­ca­tions”, is be­ing host­ed in col­lab­o­ra­tion with the Sir Arthur Lewis In­sti­tute for So­cial and Eco­nom­ic Stud­ies (SALIS­ES).

This vir­tu­al event fol­lows a Vice-Chan­cel­lor’s Fo­rum held in March, which ex­am­ined the eco­nom­ic im­pli­ca­tions for the glob­al oil in­dus­try and the Caribbean.

Fri­day’s Fo­rum will bring to­geth­er In­ter­na­tion­al Re­la­tions ex­perts from The UWI, along with diplo­mats from ma­jor geo-strate­gic ju­ris­dic­tions to share their per­spec­tives on the is­sue, in an in­ter­ac­tive pan­el dis­cus­sion that will be streamed live via UWItv from 10:00 am AST/East­ern Caribbean time and 9:00 a.m. EST/Ja­maica time.

Vice-Chan­cel­lor of The UWI, Pro­fes­sor Sir Hi­lary Beck­les, and Act­ing Di­rec­tor of SALIS­ES, St. Au­gus­tine Cam­pus, Dr. God­frey St. Bernard, will de­liv­er open­ing re­marks at the event.

Dr. In­di­ra Ram­per­sad, Se­nior Re­search Fel­low (SALIS­ES) and In­ter­na­tion­al Re­la­tions spe­cial­ist, will serve as Chair of the pro­ceed­ings and mod­er­a­tor of the pan­el dis­cus­sion.  The pan­el­lists in­clude:

■   His Ex­cel­len­cy, Pe­ter Cavendish, Eu­ro­pean Union Am­bas­sador to Trinidad and To­ba­go

■   Her Ex­cel­len­cy, Har­ri­et Cross, British High Com­mis­sion­er to Trinidad and To­ba­go

■   Mr. Shante Moore Chargé d'Af­faires, Unit­ed States Em­bassy in Trinidad and To­ba­go

■   Dr. Theodore Tu­doroiu, Se­nior Lec­tur­er, De­part­ment of Po­lit­i­cal Sci­ence, The UWI, St. Au­gus­tine Cam­pus

■   Dr. Michal Paw­ińs­ki, Lec­tur­er, In­sti­tute of In­ter­na­tion­al Re­la­tions, The UWI, St. Au­gus­tine Cam­pus
