A San Fernando businesswoman shot and killed a relative inside her home on Wednesday morning, telling police she acted to protect her daughter after being threatened.
Police said the woman, who is a licensed firearm holder, shot Steve Ghany Jr three times in the chest after he entered her bedroom during a confrontation. Following the incident, she contacted officers and handed over the weapon. Homicide investigators are continuing enquiries, as initial reports indicate the matter may be domestic in nature.
A source told Guardian Media that Ghany’s stepmother, Monica Ghany, had been shot dead in December 2024, and since then, the family disputes had intensified as Ghany Jr allegedly threatened several family members. The source added that relatives, including the woman, had expressed fear for their safety in the months leading up to Wednesday’s shooting.
The source claimed Ghany Jr had recently spent time at a rifle range and was known to own multiple firearms.
His step-mother, Monica Ghany, was gunned down outside the San Fernando General Hospital after visiting her ailing husband, Steve Ghany Sr, who has since died. She and her son, Matthew, were driving along Lady Hailes Avenue when gunmen opened fire near the construction site of the new market.
Police are calling on anyone with information on the killings to contact Crimestoppers at 800-TIPS.
