A San Fer­nan­do busi­ness­woman shot and killed a rel­a­tive in­side her home on Wednes­day morn­ing, telling po­lice she act­ed to pro­tect her daugh­ter af­ter be­ing threat­ened.

Po­lice said the woman, who is a li­censed firearm hold­er, shot Steve Ghany Jr three times in the chest af­ter he en­tered her bed­room dur­ing a con­fronta­tion. Fol­low­ing the in­ci­dent, she con­tact­ed of­fi­cers and hand­ed over the weapon. Homi­cide in­ves­ti­ga­tors are con­tin­u­ing en­quiries, as ini­tial re­ports in­di­cate the mat­ter may be do­mes­tic in na­ture.

A source told Guardian Me­dia that Ghany’s step­moth­er, Mon­i­ca Ghany, had been shot dead in De­cem­ber 2024, and since then, the fam­i­ly dis­putes had in­ten­si­fied as Ghany Jr al­leged­ly threat­ened sev­er­al fam­i­ly mem­bers. The source added that rel­a­tives, in­clud­ing the woman, had ex­pressed fear for their safe­ty in the months lead­ing up to Wednes­day’s shoot­ing.

The source claimed Ghany Jr had re­cent­ly spent time at a ri­fle range and was known to own mul­ti­ple firearms.

His step-moth­er, Mon­i­ca Ghany, was gunned down out­side the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal af­ter vis­it­ing her ail­ing hus­band, Steve Ghany Sr, who has since died. She and her son, Matthew, were dri­ving along La­dy Hailes Av­enue when gun­men opened fire near the con­struc­tion site of the new mar­ket.
