San Juan Man Charged with 40 counts of forgery

A San Juan man has ap­peared be­fore a Port of Spain Mag­is­trate charged with over 40 counts of forgery.
Sha­heed Ho­sein, 30, of Chotoo Street, was charged with 21 counts of ob­tain­ing mon­ey by use of a forged in­stru­ment, 21 counts of ut­ter­ing a forged doc­u­ment and one count of lar­ce­ny ser­vant for $3,036.
Ho­sein ap­peared be­fore Mag­is­trate Re­hanne Ho­sein May 20th via video con­fer­enc­ing. He was grant­ed bail with sure­ty in the sum of $150,000, and the mat­ter was ad­journed to June 17th 2020.
Ac­cord­ing to po­lice re­ports, dur­ing the pe­ri­od Au­gust 28th 2019 and Jan­u­ary 16th 2020, an em­ploy­ee of a pest con­trol com­pa­ny in Cas­cade ob­tained the sum of $147,000 cash from 21 cheques drawn from an ac­count in the name of his em­ploy­er. It was lat­er dis­cov­ered that the sig­na­tures on the cheques were forged and the em­ploy­ee was not en­ti­tled to the pro­ceeds of the said cheques. In an­oth­er in­ci­dent, on Fri­day, De­cem­ber 20th 2019, the same em­ploy­ee was en­trust­ed the sum of $16,795 in cash by his em­ploy­er to de­posit in­to the com­pa­ny’s ac­count. The em­ploy­ee de­posit­ed $13,759 in­to the ac­count and a deficit of $3,036 was dis­cov­ered af­ter. The em­ploy­ee could not ac­count for the deficit and it was dis­cov­ered that he had tak­en the funds for his use and ben­e­fit. A re­port was made to the Fraud Squad and of­fi­cers con­duct­ed in­ves­ti­ga­tions in­to the in­ci­dents. On Sun­day May 17th 2020, of­fi­cers con­duct­ed an ex­er­cise in the North East­ern Di­vi­sion which re­sult­ed in Ho­sein be­ing ar­rest­ed in con­nec­tion with the mat­ters. He was charged with the of­fences by WPC Lazarus of the Fraud Squad on Tues­day May 19th 2020.
