The Supermarket Association of T&T (SATT) has completed the first leg of its successful vaccination drive.
Following the exercise yesterday, SATT president Rajiv Diptee said his organisation had successfully inoculated 5,000 people since the programme commenced on June 7.
Diptee said the infrastructure that SATT has in place at the Centre Pointe Mall, Chaguanas, will also be used to start the inoculation of 3,000 people tomorrow for the Diabetes Association of T&T.
“It has been tremendous so far. The SATT really are appreciative of the efforts of the Minister of Health in recognising the sector with the contribution of vaccines. We really feel that it’s something that’s been long overdue by the people in our sector. The vaccine acceptance has been on the uptick.”
He said the association has also set a controlled successful mass vaccination template.
“When we look at what happened last week at the health centres, people can reflect very kindly on this to feel the comfort of a very well-structured vaccination site. We have over 125 staff here and nothing less than 50 medical professionals here.”
He said the site will also accommodate second dose vaccinations next month.
A total of 4,000 doses were given to the supermarket workers and 1,000 to the pharmacy sector.
