The murder of a 16-year-old schoolboy has sent shock waves throughout Guayaguayare.
Christan Smith 16, a Form 3 student was shot and killed at his Vaspery Extension, Ferrier Circular, Guayaguayare home last night.
Police reported that around 1140 pm they responded to a shooting and went to a house where they saw the 16-year-old boy slumped over a small fridge in the living room with gunshots about the body.
The teenager’s mother, Martha Smith, an employee with MTS, told police that she was asleep in her bedroom when she heard several loud explosions.
She went to the living room and saw her son lying in a pool of blood. Smith told police she rushed to his assistance and attempted to lift him up but failed, only to realise that he was dead.
Smith called the Mayaro police and made a report.
A party of police officers led by ASP Revanales, Sgt Harper of Mayaro CID and Cpl Bernette of Homicide and other officers of Mayaro ERP responded.
District Medical Officer Dr Jones viewed the body and ordered its removal to Sangre Grande Mortuary from where it was expected to be taken to the Forensic Science Centre, St James for a post mortem.
Meanwhile, the teen's murder has left his schoolmates shocked and traumatised.
Police say Christan attended the Mayaro High school and was described as a budding footballer, athlete and a "very likeable student."
So far officers are yet to pinpoint a motive for teen's murder but have already ruled out robbery, since nothing was stolen from the house.
Christan has become the second teen to be killed in just a matter of days in this country. His murder comes on the heels of that of Jamal Charles, 16, who was shot dead in Beetham Gardens.
Investigations are ongoing.
