The mur­der of a 16-year-old school­boy has sent shock waves through­out Guayagua­yare.

Chris­tan Smith 16, a Form 3 stu­dent was shot and killed at his Vaspery Ex­ten­sion, Fer­ri­er Cir­cu­lar, Guayagua­yare home last night.

Po­lice re­port­ed that around 1140 pm they re­spond­ed to a shoot­ing and went to a house where they saw the 16-year-old boy slumped over a small fridge in the liv­ing room with gun­shots about the body.

The teenag­er’s moth­er, Martha Smith, an em­ploy­ee with MTS, told po­lice that she was asleep in her bed­room when she heard sev­er­al loud ex­plo­sions.

She went to the liv­ing room and saw her son ly­ing in a pool of blood. Smith told po­lice she rushed to his as­sis­tance and at­tempt­ed to lift him up but failed, on­ly to re­alise that he was dead.

Smith called the Ma­yaro po­lice and made a re­port.

A par­ty of po­lice of­fi­cers led by ASP Re­vanales, Sgt Harp­er of Ma­yaro CID and Cpl Ber­nette of Homi­cide and oth­er of­fi­cers of Ma­yaro ERP re­spond­ed.

Dis­trict Med­ical Of­fi­cer Dr Jones viewed the body and or­dered its re­moval to San­gre Grande Mor­tu­ary from where it was ex­pect­ed to be tak­en to the Foren­sic Sci­ence Cen­tre, St James for a post mortem.

Mean­while, the teen's mur­der has left his school­mates shocked and trau­ma­tised.

Po­lice say Chris­tan at­tend­ed the Ma­yaro High school and was de­scribed as a bud­ding foot­baller, ath­lete and a "very like­able stu­dent."

So far of­fi­cers are yet to pin­point a mo­tive for teen's mur­der but have al­ready ruled out rob­bery, since noth­ing was stolen from the house.

Chris­tan has be­come the sec­ond teen to be killed in just a mat­ter of days in this coun­try. His mur­der comes on the heels of that of Ja­mal Charles, 16, who was shot dead in Beetham Gar­dens.
