Searches continue for 13-year-old Samir Ragbir who went missing at sea on Monday.
Samir left home yesterday with his sisters, to celebrate a relative's birthday at Sunset Beach Resort in Mayaro.
Relatives said Samir was swimming about 200 feet from the shoreline around 3:30 pm, when he began experiencing difficulties and went underwater.
Beach goers attempted to help but were unable to reach him due to the strong current.
Samir's family spent the night in Mayaro and are praying that he is found.
Speaking today with Guardian Media, Samir's father, Ryan Ragbir, shared his last interaction with his son.
“I just tell him to just take his time, and don’t get in trouble,” Ragbir recalled.
The Hunters Search and Rescue Team have lent their expertise in the search for Samir.
Team leader, Captain Vallence Rambharat, told Guardian Media that they resumed searches around 4 am, today.
“We are currently still here,” he reported. “We have had no success with respect to locating anything to do with Samir.”
“We are continuing the search to assist the family to locate him,” he assured.
Mayaro Police also are assisting the family with the search for Samir.
