Search ongoing for teen missing at sea

Search­es con­tin­ue for 13-year-old Samir Rag­bir who went miss­ing at sea on Mon­day.

Samir left home yes­ter­day with his sis­ters, to cel­e­brate a rel­a­tive's birth­day at Sun­set Beach Re­sort in Ma­yaro.

Rel­a­tives said Samir was swim­ming about 200 feet from the shore­line around 3:30 pm, when he be­gan ex­pe­ri­enc­ing dif­fi­cul­ties and went un­der­wa­ter.

Beach go­ers at­tempt­ed to help but were un­able to reach him due to the strong cur­rent.

Samir's fam­i­ly spent the night in Ma­yaro and are pray­ing that he is found.

Speak­ing to­day with Guardian Me­dia, Samir's fa­ther, Ryan Rag­bir, shared his last in­ter­ac­tion with his son.

“I just tell him to just take his time, and don’t get in trou­ble,” Rag­bir re­called.

The Hunters Search and Res­cue Team have lent their ex­per­tise in the search for Samir.

Team leader, Cap­tain Val­lence Ramb­harat, told Guardian Me­dia that they re­sumed search­es around 4 am, to­day.

“We are cur­rent­ly still here,” he re­port­ed. “We have had no suc­cess with re­spect to lo­cat­ing any­thing to do with Samir.”

“We are con­tin­u­ing the search to as­sist the fam­i­ly to lo­cate him,” he as­sured.

Ma­yaro Po­lice al­so are as­sist­ing the fam­i­ly with the search for Samir.
