A 39-year-old businessman is in stable condition after he was reportedly shot by a security guard after a fight outside a Caroni grocery store on Monday night.
Police said the businessman was at the grocery on Kelly Village, South Bank Road, at 7.15 pm when he got a phone call and left the store to head to his green Kia Sportage.
On reaching the carpark and entering the vehicle, the man reported that he was approached by a security guard, who ordered him to get out.
The businessman reportedly refused as the guard punched him on the right side of his face.
The businessman drove away when he heard a gunshot and felt a burning sensation on the left side of his face and noticed he was bleeding.
The wounded man drove himself to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex for treatment.
Police visited the scene and were told that the security guard fired a round of 12-gauge ammunition from his shotgun at the man, wounding him.
The 39-year-old security guard was arrested as part of enquiries.
Investigators said the man was expected to be interviewed by officers of the Central Division yesterday.
