Investigators are awaiting an autopsy on the body of Shadie Dasrath to help them determine the circumstances surrounding her death.

Dasrath, a customer service representative, was found nude and unresponsive on her bed on Friday morning, hours after she had an argument with a 24-year-old man over a hickey on her body.

Police said Dasrath, 31, had a wound in the middle of her forehead when they found her.

The man, a security officer, told the police he had no idea how she died. He told police that she returned to the apartment around 11 pm on Thursday and they argued because she had a hickey on her body. He said she then went into the bedroom while he stayed in the living room. Sometime after 1 pm, he went to check on her and found her naked and unresponsive on the bed. He then alerted the other tenants, one of whom is a police officer.

The policeman went to her apartment where he saw her body on the bed. He subsequently contacted the Command Centre and when the other officers arrived, they observed the wound on Dasrath’s forehead.

District Medical Officer Dr Manisha Santlal viewed the body and ordered its removal to the San Fernando mortuary.

When Guardian Media visited the two-story apartment complex, a caution tape was across the door of Dasrath’s downstairs apartment. Neighbours said they did not know Dasrath very well, but said she moved into the apartment with a male companion about two years ago.

A co-worker of hers told Guardian Media that she worked on Thursday and was in good spirits. The co-worker added that her death has left everyone in a state of sadness and shock.

The security officer was interviewed by the police and released pending further investigations.

An autopsy is expected to be done this week at the Forensic Science Centre, St James, following a COVID-19 test on the body.

Officers of the San Fernando CID and Homicide Bureau of Investigations visited the scene. Investigations are continuing.
