A licensed security guard shot a knife-wielding patron outside a Curepe bar early Saturday morning after trying to break up a fight.
Police said two patrons were arguing in the parking lot of the bar on Southern Main Road around 12.20 am when one of the men pulled a knife and charged at the other.
The security guard intervened and ordered the attacker to drop the weapon, but the man continued to advance. The guard then drew his licensed pistol and shot him once in the midsection.
The wounded man was taken to hospital by the guard and was listed in critical condition up to 9 am on Saturday.
A report was made at the St Joseph Police Station.
