A li­censed se­cu­ri­ty guard shot a knife-wield­ing pa­tron out­side a Curepe bar ear­ly Sat­ur­day morn­ing af­ter try­ing to break up a fight.

Po­lice said two pa­trons were ar­gu­ing in the park­ing lot of the bar on South­ern Main Road around 12.20 am when one of the men pulled a knife and charged at the oth­er.

The se­cu­ri­ty guard in­ter­vened and or­dered the at­tack­er to drop the weapon, but the man con­tin­ued to ad­vance. The guard then drew his li­censed pis­tol and shot him once in the mid­sec­tion.

The wound­ed man was tak­en to hos­pi­tal by the guard and was list­ed in crit­i­cal con­di­tion up to 9 am on Sat­ur­day.

A re­port was made at the St Joseph Po­lice Sta­tion.
