Two security guards hired to protect machinery and materials at a Manzanilla job site were beaten and robbed by bandits on Thursday afternoon.
Police said the men, aged 49 and 54, were sitting under a tent opposite the Manzanilla-Mayaro Road around 6:40 pm when two bandits, one armed with a gun, approached them.
One bandit kicked one of the guards before overpowering and tying both of them up. The bandits then stole the guards’ cellphones and $500 in cash.
The guards were led to a nearby beachfront but managed to free themselves and return to the job site, where they discovered six rolls of wire mesh had been stolen.
