Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for Operations, Curt Simon, who served as the Gold Commander for the 2025 General Elections, says he is satisfied with the overall conduct of the electorate and has commended the Police Service for what he says were its “effective security operations”.
“The electoral process unfolded in a manner that allowed the public to exercise their franchise freely and safely. We saw democracy at work,” DCP (Ag.) Simon stated in a release.
“We are pleased with the level of cooperation from citizens who exercised great restraint and mutual respect, allowing the democratic process to take its course,” he said.
“Thanks to the presence and vigilance of police officers in every polling division,” DCP (Ag.) Simon noted, “we were able to maintain a high standard of safety and security throughout the day.”
While the TTPS reports that no major incidents disrupted the voting process, DCP (Ag.) Simon confirmed that the police are actively investigating a report of a homicide that occurred during the election period, noting the incident was not related in any way to the elections.
The TTPS also has confirmed the arrest of one individual in the Mt. Lambert area in possession of TT$30,000.
“Investigations are underway to determine whether this incident is connected to election-related activities or other matters,” the Police Service statement said.
DCP (Ag.) Simon also acknowledged the efforts of police officers who ensured a secure environment throughout the entire campaign period, stating:
“Officers maintained a visible presence at all political meetings, ensuring that citizens could move freely and safely to participate in the democratic process.”
