The Prime Ministers of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Barbados, Jamaica, and Belize will address the morning session of the United Nations General Assembly debate, which resumes today, 26 September, from 9 am (Eastern Caribbean Time).
Trinidad and Tobago and Antigua and Barbuda are scheduled for the afternoon session.
The High-Level Meeting to Commemorate and Promote the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons convenes at 10 am.
On 25 September, UN Secretary-General António Guterres met with Suriname’s President Jennifer Geerlings-Simons. They discussed ways to address the climate crisis, preserve biodiversity, and strengthen forest protection.
Earlier, on 21 September, the Secretary-General met with Guyana’s President Mohamed Irfaan Ali. They discussed efforts by Guyana and Caribbean countries to fight climate change, avoid deforestation, and safeguard forest cover. The Secretary-General congratulated Guyana on its election as a non-permanent member of the Security Council for the 2024–2025 term. They also exchanged views on the situation in Haiti.
