Flooded with complaints of police inaction, Snr Supt Zamsheed Mohammed is expected to issue a memorandum instructing all sergeants in the Southern Division to follow-up on reports from the public.
“You leave a phone number and they will be instructed to communicate with you directly because if they can’t get the constables to do it, they will do it themselves,” Mohammed told attendees of Monday’s police town meeting at the Princes Town Promenade.
His instruction came after members of the public complained of being threatened and dismissed by police officers when they inquire about the status of their reports.
Mohammed said that from last night, sergeants will be responsible for all inquiries.
“What I am getting here tonight, directly, is that reports are being made at the station and there is no follow up action to it. What I am undertaking to do as of tonight, is that each sergeant in the Southern Division, any station, they will be instructed to follow up on the complaints.”
There were also compliments for the Princes Town CID for the patrols around the Buen Intento area and the low crime rate during the Christmas season.
