The Government intends to order nine new aircraft that will fly between Trinidad and Tobago, according to Tobago West MP and Minister of Sport and Community Development Shamfa Cudjoe. She made the revelation during yesterday’s Budget debate in Parliament.
“We are set to order, to arrange, to get nine new ATRs to Trinidad and Tobago to improve the inter-island transportation and I’m pleased to see that happening,” she said.
She listed this as part of investments to support tourism on the island.
On affairs of sports, Cudjoe said they intend to do upgrades to stadiums in the country.
“Our facility of priority for this year, of course, will be Ato Boldon and Dwight York Stadiums since they will be used to host the Commonwealth Youth Games but we are also getting ready to do work on Mannie Ramjohn, Larry Gomes Stadium,” she said.
Cudjoe said the ministry is also in the process of planning to demolish the Hasely Crawford Stadium.
“We are in discussions with Udecott about taking down Hasely Crawford Stadium and Jean Pierre Complex and getting something new,” she said.
She said the ministry was able to contribute $210 million toward the development of the country’s athletes in the current fiscal year by placing the money “in the hands of our national governing bodies and our athletes, providing rewards and incentives.”
