Crisseann Thompson is still hoping that before her brother’s 27th birthday, he will have a comfortable room with a bed to sleep on.
Her brother Cristoff Srikissoon’s plight was highlighted by Guardian Media last week. Since then, Thompson said several people have called the family pledging assistance.
Thompson had appealed for help with materials to build a bedroom adjoining her home at Pond Street, Aripero Village, South Oropouche, for her brother, who is disabled.
When Cristoff was three-months-old, he was diagnosed with meningitis and his life changed forever.
His body is now twisted to the extent that he cannot use his hands or walk. While he can speak, he has a child-like mentality.
Due to unfortunate circumstances, he is now sleeping on a mattress on the floor of his relative’s one-bedroom wooden house, which has no electricity.
His mother died 11 years ago and his father recently suffered a stroke. He is now in Thompson’s care but she does not have the space to accommodate him at her home.
Thompson, a housewife, admits that since the COVID-19 pandemic struck, her husband, who repairs electrical appliances, has fallen on tough times. They have two young children.
Thankful to everyone who has reached out to her, she said JTA supermarket has promised a month’s supply of diapers for her brother. Thompson said a woman pledged $1,000 worth of materials at a nearby hardware, while another person visited her. “I am thankful to everyone who called and I am staying positive that we will get the material to build the room for him,” she said.
In the meantime, however, her brother Cristoff will remain with their cousin, who lives a short distance away.
Thompson said he told her he wants a purple jersey for his birthday on July 17.
