Mur­dered po­lice of­fi­cer Rom­mel Dou­glas is ex­pect­ed to re­ceive a full mil­i­tary send-off on Thurs­day be­fore be­ing cre­mat­ed.

Dou­glas was shot dead on Ju­ly 28. Po­lice re­port­ed that the 48-year-old was sit­ting in his white Nis­san Ti­i­da along South Bank Road, near Hy­draulic Trace, Kel­ly Vil­lage, Ca­roni, at around 11.05 pm when gun­men con­front­ed him.

Dur­ing the con­fronta­tion, Dou­glas shot one of the men be­fore he was shot.

The in­jured sus­pect was tak­en to the Ari­ma Hos­pi­tal, where he lat­er died. He was sub­se­quent­ly iden­ti­fied as 19-year-old Adetole Am­mon of Print­eryville, Ari­ma.

Po­lice are con­tin­u­ing to hunt two oth­er men who were in­volved in the shoot­ing.

Dou­glas’ fu­ner­al will take place at the Mor­vant Cen­tral Com­mu­ni­ty Cen­tre at noon, fol­lowed by cre­ma­tion at K Al­lens and Sons Cre­ma­to­ri­um in Ari­ma at 3 pm.

Dou­glas grew up in Mor­vant and en­list­ed in the Po­lice Ser­vice from the area.

Last as­signed to the West­ern Di­vi­sion, Dou­glas was re­mem­bered by col­leagues and fam­i­ly as a ded­i­cat­ed po­lice of­fi­cer.

Po­lice Pub­lic In­for­ma­tion Of­fi­cer ASP Owie Rus­sell said he worked with Dou­glas dur­ing his time in the West­ern Di­vi­sion and de­scribed him as a gen­tle­man and a very good of­fi­cer.

Rus­sell added that Dou­glas was com­mit­ted to men­tor­ing younger of­fi­cers, nev­er sought pro­mo­tions, and pos­sessed a wealth of knowl­edge.
