This December sees the return of Trinidad and Tobago’s most popular soca parang spectacular in tribute to the late entertainer Kenny J, Kenwrick Joseph (15 July 1952 – 2 January 2022).
Touted as “a wonderful event to begin your Christmas festivities”, event organisers say “Soca Parang Fiesta” will be a two-day musical tribute extravaganza showcasing local seasonal music favourites, as well selections from the extensive repertoire of Kenny J, which will be performed by some of the top names in the soca parang genre.
Top soca parang artistes featured in the line-up are Crazy, Marcia Miranda, Cro Cro, Alicia Jaggasar, Sugar Aloes, Marilyn Williams, Eddie Charles, Ninja, Bindley B, and Poser backed by The A Team. Event organisers promise each of these top artistes will perform their popular hits, to bring seasonal sparkle and cheer.
Special guest appearances include talented duo, Xavier Strings, known for their fusion of Caribbean and folk music using the violin and other instruments, as well as multiple parang champions, Los Alumnos De San Juan.
The two-day event is carded for December 10 at The Southern Academy of the Performing Arts (SAPA), San Fernando, and December 11 at the National Academy of the Performing Arts (NAPA), Port of Spain.
Kenwrick ‘Kenny J’ Joseph was well-loved for his double entendre Christmas ditties such as “Paint Brush”, “Alexander” and “Hush Your Mouth”, among others.
Admission is $300, with an early-bird special at $250, and event organisers also promise numerous door prizes to complement patrons’ Christmas wish lists, ranging from appliances to alcohol to food items.
