This De­cem­ber sees the re­turn of Trinidad and To­ba­go’s most pop­u­lar so­ca parang spec­tac­u­lar in trib­ute to the late en­ter­tain­er Ken­ny J, Ken­wrick Joseph (15 Ju­ly 1952 – 2 Jan­u­ary 2022).

Tout­ed as “a won­der­ful event to be­gin your Christ­mas fes­tiv­i­ties”, event or­gan­is­ers say “So­ca Parang Fi­es­ta” will be a two-day mu­si­cal trib­ute ex­trav­a­gan­za show­cas­ing lo­cal sea­son­al mu­sic favourites, as well se­lec­tions from the ex­ten­sive reper­toire of Ken­ny J, which will be per­formed by some of the top names in the so­ca parang genre.

Top so­ca parang artistes fea­tured in the line-up are Crazy, Mar­cia Mi­ran­da, Cro Cro, Ali­cia Jag­gasar, Sug­ar Aloes, Mar­i­lyn Williams, Ed­die Charles, Nin­ja, Bind­ley B, and Pos­er backed by The A Team. Event or­gan­is­ers promise each of these top artistes will per­form their pop­u­lar hits, to bring sea­son­al sparkle and cheer.

Spe­cial guest ap­pear­ances in­clude tal­ent­ed duo, Xavier Strings, known for their fu­sion of Caribbean and folk mu­sic us­ing the vi­o­lin and oth­er in­stru­ments, as well as mul­ti­ple parang cham­pi­ons, Los Alum­nos De San Juan.

The two-day event is card­ed for De­cem­ber 10 at The South­ern Acad­e­my of the Per­form­ing Arts (SAPA), San Fer­nan­do, and De­cem­ber 11 at the Na­tion­al Acad­e­my of the Per­form­ing Arts (NA­PA), Port of Spain.

Ken­wrick ‘Ken­ny J’ Joseph was well-loved for his dou­ble en­ten­dre Christ­mas dit­ties such as “Paint Brush”, “Alexan­der” and “Hush Your Mouth”, among oth­ers.

Ad­mis­sion is $300, with an ear­ly-bird spe­cial at $250, and event or­gan­is­ers al­so promise nu­mer­ous door prizes to com­ple­ment pa­trons’ Christ­mas wish lists, rang­ing from ap­pli­ances to al­co­hol to food items.
