The death of 41-year-old Kwasi Dion Gill, who was shot dead in Bel­mont on Sat­ur­day, has sparked an out­pour­ing of trib­utes from or­gan­i­sa­tions that re­mem­bered him for his com­pas­sion, courage and com­mit­ment to vul­ner­a­ble peo­ple.

Sex and gen­der jus­tice or­gan­i­sa­tion CAISO de­scribed Gill as a per­son who touched many lives with his “bright smile, warm spir­it and un­wa­ver­ing com­mit­ment to oth­ers.”

The or­gan­i­sa­tion said Gill worked along­side count­less peo­ple and or­gan­i­sa­tions and con­sis­tent­ly cre­at­ed spaces where oth­ers felt seen, heard and sup­port­ed.

The Fam­i­ly Plan­ning As­so­ci­a­tion of Trinidad and To­ba­go (FPATT), where Gill worked for sev­en years, al­so mourned his death, de­scrib­ing his con­tri­bu­tion to the or­gan­i­sa­tion as be­ing de­fined by com­pas­sion, courage and ded­i­cat­ed ser­vice.

FPATT said Gill’s work made a last­ing im­pact on young peo­ple, sur­vivors and vul­ner­a­ble in­di­vid­u­als.

Gill, of Beetham Gar­dens, was found dead around 3.04 pm on Sat­ur­day at Tex­tile Hill, La­dy Young Road, Bel­mont.

Crime scene in­ves­ti­ga­tors found five spent shells.

Gill had been re­port­ed miss­ing by rel­a­tives on Fri­day night. He re­port­ed­ly left home to at­tend an event but did not ar­rive and did not an­swer calls to his cell­phone.

Po­lice in­ves­ti­ga­tions are con­tin­u­ing.
