Four men were detained by members of the Defence Force on Wednesday, shortly after a sales van was robbed of $60,000 in cash.
The suspects are between the ages of 19 and 24 and are from the Port-of-Spain and Laventille areas.
According to a police report, at about 3.10 pm, the victims, both 24 years old, had just left the Sangre Grande area and were proceeding south to the corner of Antigua Road and Churchill-Roosevelt Highway for their final sale for the day.
On arrival at that location, they were accosted by three men, one armed with a firearm.
The victims were relieved of $60,000, representing the day’s sales.
The men then ran into some nearby bushes.
The victims raised an alarm to an oncoming Defence Force vehicle, the driver stopped and a group of soldiers got out, chased and held the four suspects in bushes located on the eastern side of the road. A search was done in the bushy area but nothing was recovered. The suspects were later handed over to the Arima CID.
