A 41-one-year-old man of Barrackpore has been charged with manslaughter in relation to the death of 63-year-old Ramesh Lallbeharry.
Police said Brandon Lalbeharry, a labourer of Hassanali Trace, South Lower Barrackpore, was charged on last Wednesday following advice from Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions (Ag.) Subrina Dougdeen-Jaglal. The charge was laid by Corporal Huggins of the Barrackpore Police Station.
According to investigators, the incident occurred on Wednesday December 31, 2025, at about 3.00 pm, at a residence in Hassanali Trace South, Lower Barrackpore. Police said Ramesh Lallbeharry was attending a family gathering at his home, where he lived with the accused and other relatives.
During the gathering, an argument reportedly took place between the deceased and the accused. Police said Ramesh Lallbeharry was later seen walking towards the back of the house. Moments later, he was found lying on the ground in a semi-conscious state and vomiting beneath a coconut tree.
Relatives transported him to the San Fernando General Hospital, where he was admitted for medical treatment. He remained warded until Tuesday January 6, 2026, when he died.
The matter was referred to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, which resulted in a recommendation for the accused to be charged with manslaughter.
Brandon Lalbeharry appeared before Master Delecia Bethelmy at the South Criminal Court “C” on Thursday January 22, 2026. The matter was adjourned to Friday June 12, 2026, for a status hearing, while a sufficiency hearing was set for Wednesday September 30, 2026.
The accused was granted bail with surety in the sum of $400,000 and was warned not to communicate with prosecution witnesses.
Investigations were led by Detective Sergeant Bridgemohan under the supervision of Assistant Superintendent Anil Maharaj of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region Three.
