A 26-year-old man who recently escaped a shooting incident was gunned down outside his home in St Mary’s Village, South Oropouche, on Monday night.
Aaron Lallan was shot near his car around 9.25 pm and sustained injuries to his neck and back. He died at the scene.
A relative who requested anonymity recalled that she was bathing when she heard three gunshots.
Speaking with reporters yesterday, the relative said she did not know any details because no one saw what happened.
She said Lallan had a “history” but had changed his life since becoming a father, and as far as she knew, he never got any threats.
“Right now we are traumatised because he is young,” she said.
“Next two weeks would have been his birthday, 27 years. He has a one-year-old daughter. It real hard now because I don’t know how his wife would cope.” She said the authorities “need to step up a little more” in curbing the crime situation.
Police confirmed that Lallan was charged in January during the State of Emergency for possession of a firearm and ammunition. He was on bail. They said Lallan had also received death threats stemming from an altercation last year. In December, an assailant shot at him, but he escaped unharmed.
Police recovered five spent shells and a live round of 9 mm ammunition at the scene.
Officers of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations Region 3 are investigating.
